An early 20th-century single-story house was reimagined as a flexible, multifunctional space through a careful process of subtraction and restoration.
All internal partition walls were removed to reveal a single open volume, allowing the space to adapt to different uses while maintaining clarity and flow. The original patterned tile flooring was preserved and meticulously restored, becoming the foundation of the project’s identity.
A custom-built joinery wall was introduced along the perimeter, designed in dialogue with the architectural language of the period. Its proportions, detailing, and materiality reference the era of the original house, while its deep-toned finish complements the restored tiles and enhances their geometric richness. Integrated banquette seating is positioned along the edges of the space, keeping the center open and flexible.
The roof was entirely reconstructed to match the original form, ensuring continuity in both silhouette and atmosphere. A restrained color palette was selected to harmonize with the existing materials, allowing the historic elements to remain the visual focus.
The intervention balances preservation with clarity—honoring the building’s past while enabling contemporary use.
